Camp Howard Heat Plan
Camp Howard experiences weather similar to Welches, Oregon. When checking the weather report, please check Welches and not Corbett, Oregon.
When the temperature heats up at Camp Howard:
- Each cabin is equipped with a fan.
- We keep the kids out of the sun and under the shade of our trees. (Temperatures in the shade can be 10 degrees cooler than out in the sun.)
- Our staff remind campers throughout the day to stay hydrated. We have water stations placed throughout camp.
- Our pool and slip and slide are great ways to cool off. In addition, we have a large sprinkler that our property director, Karen von Borstel, sets up in a field for kids to cool off in.
- We have a misting fan set up in the Welcome Center courtyard for campers to enjoy.
What can parents pack to help campers cool off:
- A refillable water bottle with their name written on it
- A sun hat or baseball hat to keep the sun off their head
- Sunblock
- A cooling neck wrap (sold at various stores)
- A small hand held battery operated fan with extra batteries
