Q. Can my child be in the same cabin as their friend who has already turned the next year?

A. In some cases an exception can be made. Please reach out at campdirector@cyocamphoward.org.

Q. The session is full and my child is on the waitlist. How long until we find out if they have a spot?

A. It will depend on someone who is currently registered to cancel their registration. As soon as that happens you will receive notification. Thank you for your patience!

Q. Can we request more than 2 cabin buddies? My child has three friends attending camp at the same time.

A. Camp is the perfect place to make new friends. Our 2 buddies limit allows for new friendships to be made. When more than 3 existing friends are placed in the same cabin it can make it difficult for the rest of the cabin campers to form friendships with them. Instead, be assured that the additional friend(s) will be in the same cabin group and often times they will attend program activities together. They will have ample time to socialize while at camp.

Q. What should I pack for my camper and does the camp provide the bedding?

A. The packing list is in the Parent Camper Handbook linked above. Camp Howard does not provide bedding so please be sure to pack a sleeping bag and pillow.

Q. Where do I bring my camper to catch the camp bus?

A. Oregon Catholic Press at 5536 NE Hassalo St., Portland. The times and location are available on Page 3 of our Parent Camper Handbook found above. Please leave your pets at home when you come to drop-off/pick-up your camper.

Q. Can I drive my camper to camp instead of them riding the bus?

A. Absolutely! Please complete the online 2024 Camper Transportation Details Form to let us know the particulars of how your camper will be getting to/from camp.  If you plans change, you can update your information by completing a new form, at any time.

Q. What if we are late to the bus? Will you wait for us?

A. Once our check-in time window is over we will begin loading the busses. Busses are scheduled to leave once the checked-in campers have been loaded. If your camper has not yet been checked-in, when we begin loading, we will attempt to contact you at the number you provided on your camper's registration. If you miss the bus, we ask that you call ahead to our camp office 503-695-2876 to let us know you are driving your camper to camp.

Q. Can my child bring snacks and drinks on the bus?

A. We encourage you to bring a full water bottle to the bus.  Only the water can be enjoyed on the bus. The snacks can be eaten before they board the bus.

Q. My child has never been to camp before. How can we help calm their nervousness?

A. Come to a camp open house so they can see where they will sleep, eat, shower, and play. This will help alleviate their anxiety and get them excited for their week at camp. Learn about Open House dates by clicking this link.

Q. Can we bring our dog with us to the Open House?

A. Per our camp insurance: no dogs or other pets are allowed in camp. Thank you for your understanding.

Q. We can't make either of the Open House dates but really want to see the camp prior to sending our child. Is there a way to arrange a tour at another time?

A. We are happy to try to make another date work, but our availability is limited due to camp rentals. Please reach out to us to inquire about a tour: campdirector@cyocamphoward.org. There are videos you can watch at this link.
