Why Camp Howard?

  • Since 1953, kids have been coming to a fun, spiritual outdoor camp to make new friends, build self-confidence, develop new skills,
    and try new activities in a safe, forested setting with a view of Mount Hood and Bull Run watershed.
  • Campers ages 6 to 14 years are grouped into "units" (6-10 year olds, 11-12 year olds, 13-14 year olds).
    Separate facilities for boys and girls.
  • Camper "buddies": Campers can request up to two cabin buddies of the same gender and age group
    (buddies must also request your child).
  • Daytime activities: Archery, arts and crafts, swimming, BB gun range, laser tag, pedal carts, corcl paddling and more! Zipline and
    Giant Swing for 13-14 year olds.
  • Evening activities: A camp favorite! Campfires with songs, skits and activities. Camp Howard's "cougar campfire" (Thursday), where
    highly coveted Cougar Awards are handed out.
  • Camp-wide "Capture the Flag" game that ends our camp week!
  • Tasty homestyle meals are served in Mary's Lodge dining hall.
  • Daily opportunities to visit the camp store and purchase a treat or two!
  • On-site Health Center with 24/7 camp medical personnel to facilitate medication dispersal and health/first aid needs. Staff are trained
    in first aid, AED and CPR.
  • Our trained camp staff is enthusiastic about working with kids! They are committed to the mission of Camp Howard and the
    care of your child. Many continue at Camp Howard for multiple summers.

Why should parents care that a summer camp is ACA Accredited? The American Camp Association is the only nationwide accrediting organization for all types and designs of organized camps. ACA standards focus on health, safety, and risk management practices. The ACA is a community of camp professionals who have joined together to share their knowledge and experience to ensure the quality of camp programs. Assurance that Camp Howard complies with up to 300 health, safety, and program quality standards. The ACA conducts a regular, independent health and safety audit of Camp Howard.
