SPECIALTY CAMPS
Add-On to General Camp
A variety of Specialty Camp options are available during each General Camp session for an additional fee. Specialty Camps at Camp Howard are designed to expand on the General Camp experience. Our Specialty Camps provide campers with the opportunity to spend one-two hour long activity periods of each day (M-Th) delving into their chosen special interest activity.
Archery
Session 5, August 2 – August 7, 2020
For any skill level, this 1-hour archery camp is for anyone who would like to spend more time developing their skills with a bow and arrow. Archery range safety, skill development and a variety of more challenging activities such as: competitions, special targets and two different types of bows.

Drone
Session 3, July 19 – July 24, 2020
HAVE YOU EVER WISHED YOU COULD HAVE A BIRDS-EYE VIEW OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS? Do you dream of becoming a pilot? Well, here is your chance. Our newest specialty camp will introduce you to the intricacies and wonders of drone piloting. Don't worry, no previous experience is necessary. Come join the FUN, learn to FLY and take home your very own mini drone!!!

Fishing
Session 3, July 19 – July 24, 2020
Learn how to fish in our fully stocked fish pond. Campers will learn the basics of fishing—casting, catching and cleaning—as well as the different variety of fishing. Poles, tackle and bait in this 2-hour class are provided.

Painting
Session 1, July 5 – July 10, 2020
Join us for a 2-hour exploration into canvas painting with the experts. Campers get an opportunity to learn techniques and express themselves using acrylic and watercolors on different sizes of canvas. Perhaps a view of Mt. Hood can be used for inspiration!

Pickleball
Session 6, August 9 – August 14, 2020
Smaller than a tennis-racquet but bigger than a ping-pong paddle…it’s pickleball! Campers will develop their skills in this 1-hour camp, then compete in a tournament. Pickelball is popular game for all ages.

Tie-Dye
Session 5, August 2 – August 7, 2020
Try your hand over the week at learning the basics of tie-dye. Students practice on t-shirts, socks and bandanas provided by camp to create a spectacular array of colorful creations.

Trap Shooting
Session 4, July 26 – July 31, 2020
Trap shoot with Sister Krista one-hour per day to learn the fine skills of clay-target shooting. This is a do-not-miss opportunity offered every few years. Must be 12 and able to hold and shoot a 12-gauge shotgun.

Survival
Session 1, July 5 – July 10, 2020
Session 2, July 12 – July 17, 2020
Our Survival Camp doesn’t have “Tribal Councils” or “Castaways”, but alliances (aka – friendships) are encouraged. Mark Lee, our versatile guest instructor, will cover basic critical wilderness survival skills. Participants will learn how and where to build a shelter, craft a fire, and procure safe water and food in the wild. Campers practice these survival skills within the safety and security of Camp Howard's boundaries and learn how to put those new skills to the test.
