Q. Can my child be in the same cabin as their friend who has turned a year older?
A. While we try to keep same-age group kids together, in some cases an exception can be made. Please reach out at campdirector@cyocamphoward.org.
Q. The session is full and my child is on the waitlist. How long until we find out if they have a spot?
A. It depends on someone who is currently registered, to cancel their registration. You will be notified as soon as a space becomes available.
Q. Can we request more than 2 cabin buddies? My child has three friends attending camp at the same time.
A. Camp is the perfect place to make new friends. Our 2 buddies limit allows for new friendships to be made. When more than 3 existing friends are placed in the same cabin, it can make it difficult for the rest of the cabin campers to form friendships with them. Instead, be assured that the additional friend(s) will be in the same cabin group and often they will attend activities together.
Q. What should I pack for my camper and does the camp provide the bedding?
A. The packing list is in the Parent Camper Handbook. Camp Howard does not provide bedding so please be sure to pack a sleeping bag and pillow.
Q. Where do I bring my camper to catch the bus?
A. Our parking lot has changed! New drop-off and pick up is 847 NE 19th Avenue, Portland OR. 97232. The times and location are available on Page 3 of our Parent Camper Handbook found above. Please leave your pets at home.
Q. Can I drive my camper to camp instead of riding the bus?
A. Yes. Please complete the online 2025 Camper Transportation Details Form to let us know the particulars of how your camper will be getting to/from camp. If you plans change, you can update your information by completing a new form, at any time.
Q. What if we are late to the bus? Will you wait for us?
A. Once our check-in time window is over we will begin loading the busses. Busses are scheduled to leave once the checked-in campers have been loaded. If your camper has not yet been checked-in, when we begin loading, we will attempt to contact you at the number you provided on your camper's registration. If you miss the bus, we ask
that you call ahead to our camp office 503-695-2876 to let us know you are driving your camper to camp.
Q. Can my child bring snacks and drinks on the bus?
A. Provide your camper with a full water bottle for the bus trip. Only water can be enjoyed on the bus. Snacks must be eaten before boarding.
Q. My child has never been to camp before. How can we help prepare them?
A. Come to a camp open house so they can see where they will sleep, eat, shower, and play. This will help the anxiety and get them excited for camp! Learn about Open House dates here.
Q. Can we bring our dog with us to the Open House?
A. Per our camp insurance: no dogs or other pets are allowed in camp. Thank you for your understanding.
Q. We can't make either of the Open House dates, but want to see the camp prior to sending our child. Can we arrange a tour at another time?
A. We are glad to try, but our availability is limited to open camp days. Please reach out to us to inquire about a tour: campdirector@cyocamphoward.org. There are videos you can watch here.
