Winter 2020-2021 Sports Season Cancelled

October 1, 2020

Dear Families,

As I listen to constituents around the city, it is so very clear to me how painful these days are for our schools and community. Digital, online learning, good as our schools are, is very difficult and I understand that. We are so blessed to have our wonderful Catholic Schools, and I pray for them every day that they will be successful in maneuvering through these trying times.

In August, we made the decision to cancel our Fall 2020 sport season. Since then, we did a survey of the Catholic Schools and found that due to the need for the extra space, gymnasiums would not be available for CYO sports. We understand and believe it is very important at this time to support the needs of our Catholic Schools and help them restart and be successful. Our business is dependent on strong Catholic Schools.

Decision regarding CYO Sports: There will be no CYO sports this winter. Our first possible sport offering will be Track & Field in the Spring, God willing.

I read recently, “You see the real character of an institution during difficult times.” I am so proud of all who work in our Catholic institutions, especially our schools. I know that all of you are having to dig deeper and stretch further than you have had to in a long time. Please know of our prayers for you and our support. It is important that we continue to keep our faith, humor, and love for one another through the pandemic. We will eventually emerge, and all be better people for what we have endured together.

God Bless You,
