CAMP HOWARD RENTAL POLICIES and INFORMATION
Camp Howard is accredited by the American Camping Association.
Camp Howard holds itself to the highest standards in the camping industry.
Alcohol / Drugs: Alcohol and illegal drugs are not permitted. Smoking is allowed behind the dining hall only.
Breakage: Thank you for reporting damaged or broken items to the Camp Manager and for being responsible for their replacement if your group broke them.
Cancellation Policy: If you cancel in writing at least 60 days in advance, we will refund 100% of the deposit fee. If you cancel less than 60 days in advance, Camp Howard will retain the entire deposit fee. If Camp Howard should have to cancel at any time, 100% of your deposit fee will be refunded. Camp Howard reserves the right to cancel reservations at any time due to extreme situations such as fire, weather, or other unforeseen circumstance.
Check-In: Upon arrival, the group leader should please check in with the camp manager. You will be asked to direct your group to designated parking areas.
Deposit: A deposit fee is required with application. This fee will reserve your rental dates. At the end of your contract, and if you have left the premises neat, clean and undamaged, we will apply this fee to your total bill. If we determine that the premises are in unsatisfactory condition, this fee will not be applied or refunded.
Insurance: Renter will need to obtain insurance, at their own expense, property and liability insurance with combined bodily injury (including sexual misconduct) and property damage limits in the amount of one million dollars in a form satisfactory to CYO. A copy must be furnished to CYO prior to event. The policy shall name CYO as an additional insured and policy shall be primary to any coverage CYO might otherwise have. Licensee shall be responsible for any deductible amount.
Emergencies: Camp Howard is not responsible for accidents or injuries incurred by user groups. It is the responsibility of the user group to provide your own first aid equipment/supplies and be prepared to handle any medical problems that occur. An adult with CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally known provider (such as Red Cross) should be on duty for emergency care. Further, that individual should be listed on the contract as your First Aid/CPR qualified individual and a photocopy of their certification card should be included with your rental agreement. The group leader should communicate any emergency to the Camp Manager.
Emergency Information: It is recommended that group leaders gather the following information and have it available in case of emergency while at camp:
- Names and addresses of all participants
- Emergency contact names and numbers
- A listing of any persons with known allergies or health conditions requiring treatment, restriction, or other accommodation while on site.
- For minors without a parent on site, a signed permission to seek emergency treatment or a signed religious waiver is needed.
Emergency Transportation: Camp Howard is located approximately 10 miles from the city of Sandy, Oregon and 10 miles from Corbett, Oregon. It is approximately 40 miles to Portland; therefore, the group leader should take transportation for medical purposes into consideration. It is recommended that a vehicle be designated for medical purposes. It should have sufficient gas and be in good working condition in case the need for emergency transportation should arise. Emergency transportation is also available from the town of Corbett. Those numbers are listed here for your convenience.

Firearms & Flammable Materials: They are not permitted except in the Camp Howard target sport program.
Fires: Because the camp is located in a wooded area, extra care is taken to prevent forest fires. Fires are permitted only in fire rings with the permission of the facilities manager.
Food Service: Meal service is provided. Final head counts are due one week prior to rental for food ordering purposes. Special needs of any kind should be discussed with head cook 1 week prior to rental. All groups are expected to assist with dining set-up (tables, plates, benches, etc) and cleanup. The kitchen staff will instruct you in what needs to be done prior to each meal and after each meal.
Heating & Lights: All cabins have electric heaters. We appreciate it when you turn out the lights when the buildings are not in use.
Hiking: We are surrounded by private land and National Forest. The Camp staff can help you in selecting trails for hiking.
Insurance / Medical: Accidents or injuries are the responsibility of the group renting the camp. You must provide your own your own first aid equipment/supplies and be prepared to handle any medical problems that occur. An adult with CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally known provider should be on duty for emergency care. The Health Center may be made available upon request to facilitate the locking up of medications.
Laundry Facilities: are available if needed.
Litter: Thank you for helping us keep our camp beautiful by picking up litter and leaving it better than you found it.
Pets: Pets are not allowed at Camp Howard for health, safety and wildlife protection reasons.
Sleeping: Sleeping is mostly twins & bunk beds. Bring your own sleeping bags or bedding, and your own toiletries.
Sports Equipment (Personal): Personal sport equipment such as balls and bats may be used at Camp Howard; however, the facilities manager must approve activities.
Supervision: All groups are expected to conduct orderly programs and maintain orderly behavior. Responsible adults must accompany youth groups, 1 adult to every 10 campers or to each sleeping unit. Fire regulations require adult (minimum age 18 years) in each cabin at night.
Swimming Pool & Pond: If you have requested use of the pool or pond, you must have someone with a current Lifeguard Certificate on duty at each site. You are expected to abide by posted rules.
Telephone: There are no phones available to the public at Camp Howard due to the prevalence of cell phones. The phone in the administration house may be used in the event of an emergency.
Time of Arrival & Departure: Rentals generally begin at 4pm on arrival date to 1pm on departure day. Times are sometimes flexible so please ask if you have special requests.
Warning: A pond is located above the dining hall near Aldergrove unit. It is not fenced nor do barriers exist to keep young people away. It is the responsibility of the user group leader to warn group members of its location and danger.
Vehicles: Cars are to be parked in designated parking areas while at camp. The trails, the walkways leading to cabin entrances, and all roads are to be kept clear at all times. Vehicle use, except camp vehicles, are prohibited from use while at camp except in emergency situations. The use of camp vehicles and power equipment is limited to camp employess. Traffic, with in camp, is limited to 10mph/5mph if campers are present.
Visitor Policy: Be advised that you are responsible for visitors at camp during your rental stay. Should an intruder or stranger approach your group you should alert your camp administrator immediately as well as the Camp Howard administrative staff.
