Our CODE Curriculum is based on the Oregon Science Standards for 6th grade. Kids will explore four main field study areas: animals, plants, soil, and water. They will enjoy many student-led activities, creating a “Choose Your Own Adventure” learning environment for all to enjoy. Kids will also love our Recreation activities including some of our Camp Howard favorites: archery, low-ropes course, and Gaga Ball!
A great time to learn all about different types of animals, their habitats, and what makes each one unique.Kids will analyze animal skulls, skins, teeth, and bones; they will look closely at insects and bugs through high-definition microscopes; discover more about the insides of animals with our x-ray machines;learn about the wingspan of birds and how it helps them navigate, and much more!
Helps kids discover new things about many plants and trees found at Camp Howard.
They will embark on a Camp Howard plant scavenger hunt; learn about the ages of trees and how they help our environment; demonstrate the process of photosynthesis; become a botanist and explore the great outdoors!
A time to get down and dirty! Students will learn about composting, recycling, and reusing; crack open geodes to learn about gems and minerals; become a young Picasso by making their own soil plants:and dig deep into the ground of Camp Howard, discovering layers of history that helped create our beautiful camp.
Allows kids to explore directly in our Camp Howard pond, full of critters, fish, and underwater life. Kids will learn about the water cycle; they will dissect and analyze aquatic life and how learn how they live; explore the lifecycle of a salmon; and build their own watercrafts out of recycled materials.
A time for kids to explore some of the great group activity areas at camp. Kids will enjoy archery, a Camp Howard favorite;
they will learn to work as a team on our low ropes courses; and they will play rounds of Gaga ball in our brand new Gaga pit!
They will also enjoy Interest Groups where they get to “choose their own adventure” from a list of options for some extra daily fun and exercise!
