Fall Sports 2020 Cancelled
August 31, 2020
Dear Families,
Thank you for your long history of friendship and faithfulness through the years to CYO and Camp Howard. Without people like you, we would not be the organization we are. Your continued support through coaching, administration of programs, volunteering, financial gifts and participation have been extremely meaningful to the success of our programs. I will always be grateful to you.
We are pressing ahead during this unique time. We have had to furlough most of our staff, and the few remaining are on half-time pay. We are working to reduce our office space to half of what it is currently and redesigning the remaining space to meet our needs, resulting in a 50% rent reduction.
Decision regarding CYO Sports: There will be no CYO sports this fall. We will closely monitor opportunities for upcoming sports and if possible, conduct them. Any sport we have had to pass up, such as fall sports, will not be offered.
The Catholic Schools in general made the decision to continue digital learning this fall and OSAA announced no fall sports. Insurance does not cover an outbreak, and the safety of our youth and families continues to be of the utmost importance. We will continue to monitor the OSAA and schools’ resulting actions.
CYO is dependent upon and will need the Catholic School facilities for our sports programs once they become available. All facilities will be required to physically distance, and as a result, indoor sports may be slower to return at all participating schools. Most important is the strong return of our schools, allowing CYO to return as soon as they are able. Believe me, we can’t wait to come back!
I am incredibly grateful to all of our donors for their response to our call for help financially to get us through this pandemic. It has been quite the challenge since March 13th when everything around us began to crumble, resulting in the loss of spring sports, summer camp, and now, fall sports. Our donors have bolstered me through this crisis, and I want to take this moment to acknowledge all of them for their generosity, friendship and commitment to CYO/Camp Howard.
We will be patient, hold on to our humor, health, and faith and look forward to seeing you again, hopefully soon at a CYO contest or Camp Howard! God bless you and your loved ones. You are in our daily prayers.
God Bless You,
Sr. Krista von Borstel
Executive Director
