General Camp is the basic summer camp program at Camp Howard. This means that, excluding any  Specialty Camps, every activity we offer will be available to those signed up for General Camp.  General Camp starts on Sunday afternoon, and ends on Friday afternoon, and is packed with activities throughout the week.

During the day, you will have six different hours where you will be attending activities.
These activities include:

  • Swimming
  • Canoeing
  • Archery
  • Paintball
  • Riflery
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Camp Store
  • Recreation
  • Hiking
  • Commando Hikes
  • 100 ft. long slip n' slide
  • Nature Exploration
  • Team-Building Activities
  • and much more...

Our camp program is set up so that campers have two different directions to choose from.  The first is with our General Camp program, and the second is with our large variety of Specialty Camp offerings. For more information on our selection of Specialty Camps, Click here.

There will be 15 meals throughout your week at Camp Howard: dinner on Sunday, breakfast/lunch/dinner Monday-Thursday, and breakfast/lunch on Friday.

We have a couple of special meals throughout the week as well.  We have an outdoor Hawaiian Luau on Tuesday night, a hot dog cookout on Wednesday night, a bed-head breakfast, a sack lunch, a twin lunch, and a special Thursday night dinner.

We have three (3) campfire programs a week at Camp Howard scheduled on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  All of them are held at our majestic Wy’East Campfire Pit (pictured below). Our ultimate campfire of the week is our Cougar Campfire program on Thursday evening when we recognize our Cougar Award winners for that summer camp session.

Teenage Campers:
The teenage campers (7th & 8th Grades) at Camp Howard, whether registered for General Camp or a Specialty Camp, live in our Cougar Den Unit.  Our Cougar Den campers have a few extra activity privileges in the evenings to participate in during camp. Throughout the week they can stay up later than the rest of camp for quiet unit activities, enjoy an outdoor overnight outing, including a hike to the onsite location and a cookout, and participate in a teen dance at the end of the week.

Camp Howard voluntarily holds itself to the highest professional standards in the camping industry through its membership in and professional accreditation by the American Camping Association.  Every three (3) years Camp Howard must undergo a thorough (up to 300 Standards) on-site review of its operating practices to remain ACA accredited. These operating benchmarks reflect the most up-to-date, research based standards in professional camp operation within the United States.
