New Staff Applicants

If you are interested in working at Camp Howard for the summer, and have never worked at Camp Howard before, then please make sure you use the following checklist and communicate with our Camp Director.  The New Staff Applicants will need to fill-out/schedule the following items:

  1. New Staff Application 2014
  2. Three Written Reference Sheets (included in the application above)
  3. Face-to-Face interview with the Camp Director; Skype interviews required for applicants out of state or not in the Portland Metro area
  4. Health History and Medical Release Form filled out by applicant, parents (if under 18 years old), and licensed medical personnel
  5. Immunization Records faxed from health care provider, including the date (month/year) of last tetanus vaccination.

Returning Staff Applicants

If you are returning as a staff member, then please fill out the following forms:

  1. Returning Staff Application 2014
  2. Health History and Medical Release Form filled out by applicant, parents (if under 18 years old), and licensed medical personnel
  3. Immunization Records faxed from health care provider

Summaries of Summer Camp Positions

Camp Nurse
Current RN certification is required.  Responsible for the well being of camp, camp health logs, incident reports, and all medical dispersion.  Needs to be a team player and flexible with hours.  On-site Sunday-Friday each week is a requirement.

Program Director
Oversee development and implementation of all camp programs. Oversee all program staff and their program areas. Run the day-to-day camp operation. Be flexible and a very good problem solver. Supervisory and camp experience required. Minimum age 21 years old.

CIT (Counselor in Training) Director
For six weeks the CIT director teaches 15, 16, and 17 year olds. This will be in three sections: (2) two-week sessions with CIT Level I's and (1) two-week session with CIT Level II's. This involves using a curriculum used for training teenagers on how to be counselors. Minimum age 21 years old.

Specialty Camps Director
Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate our specialty camps, which include: Target Sports Camp, Fishing Camp. Minimum age 18 years old. 

Unit Director
Provide organization and supervision for 30-40 campers and 5-6 counselors, and monitor their cabin activities. Arrange all unit activities and assist with the camp radio and nature programs. Problem solving skills are critical. Supervisory and camp experience required. Minimum age 21 years old.

Arts & Crafts Director
Facilitate camps art program designated for ages 7-14. Experience in various art techniques and able to teach daily arts and crafts projects. The ability to instruct campers and staff critical. Organization and art ability required. Minimum age 18 years old.

Recreation Director
Create a varied schedule of activities for all levels, emphasizing participation over competition. Must have knowledge of various sports, group games, and indoor activities. The ability to organize large groups of people is essential. Minimum age 18 years old.

Target Sports Director
Will be certified in Archery Instruction at the begining of the summer. Will be in charge of supervising both our archery and BB gun ranges. Minimum age 18 years old.

Paintball Director
In charge of monitoring our Paintball activity as well as coordinating our weekly Paintball Camp with the Camp Director, Program Director, and Specialty Camps Director. Daily cleaning of equipment is a required part of the job description. Minimum age 18 years old.

Lifeguard
In charge of either the swimming pool or our canoe pond.  Needs to be currently certified as a lifeguard, as well as leadership experience.

Cabin Counselor
Live with and supervise a cabin of eight campers. Care for the campers needs and maintain an inclusive environment. Assist in other camp operations as needed. Sound judgment, flexibility, punctuality, and patience a must. Minimum age 18 years old.

Relief Counselor
Assist the Unit Director and provide time off for counselors. Willingness to help in any area of camp. Ability to move from cabin group several times a day. Must be responsible and punctual. Minimum age 17 years old.

Reserve Counselor
Assist the Unit Director and provide time off for counselors. Willingness to help in any area of camp. Ability to move from cabin group several times a day. Must be responsible and punctual. Minimum age 17 years old.

Assistant Cook
Assist the head cook in preparing all meals. Help prepare all unit pack outs. The ability to work quickly and efficiently are required. Supervision, organizational skills, and flexibility needed. Minimum age 21 years old.

Kitchen Assistant/Dishwasher
Work as a team with the kitchen staff to do all prep work as assigned by the head cook. Assist in cleaning after meals and doing dishes. Must be willing to work quickly, follow directions, and be flexible. Minimum age 16 years old.
